Winter Workout

WELCOME TO MCSSA WINTER WORKOUT

The MCSSA Winter Workout Program for softball begins after the first of each year. It’s most important and beneficial for every athlete, especially a senior athlete, to have a conditioning regimen well in advance of the start of the season. A commitment to preparing for the upcoming season will help the body’s ability to handle the demands of softball without causing injury. The better shape you are in, the better your body will adapt to the stresses of the game. At first, take your conditioning slow; build a base, than build up to game level preparation. All to frequently the hero doesn’t prepare, pulls a hamstring, sprains an ankle, and is sidelined early in the season. Softball requires a great deal of flexibility so it is important to increase flexibility in certain muscle groups, i.e., hamstrings, hips, calves, and achilles tendons, to name a few. Tightness greatly increases the risk of injury, so it is important to stretch and stay flexible. Finally, whether you like the single-minded focus of an individual sport like running or pickleball, or prefer the camaraderie of a basketball or softball team, you’ll feel better if you play sports.

MCSSA winter workout is held at D-BAT January-March.
